House panel eyes Rx break for pharmacies

Mt. Morris, Mich. -- Many of pharmacist Matt Gunn's customers are getting their prescriptions filled without his help, but some have come calling anyway with questions and to express their frustration, he said.
UAW members now are required to buy maintenance drugs for chronic conditions, such as diabetes, in 90-day supplies through mail-order companies.
A three-month grace period has ended, and those who had avoided making the change must now use mail order for some drugs. The shift comes just as hearings resume Wednesday on legislation that may offer customers the choice of using local pharmacies or mail order.
