The Coalition for Quality Healthcare is not seeking tax breaks or special protection from the government. It’s only goal is to reduce healthcare costs in Michigan while upholding high standards of personal service, assuring full access to consumer options and preserving the traditional contributions of local pharmacies to the state’s economy. The Coalition’s legislative goal is simple – to allow community pharmacies to compete fairly and fully with out-of-state mail-order facilities. To do that, all barriers must be eliminated that prevent local drug stores from offering 90-day supplies of medications for just one co-pay – just as mail-order facilities do. We strongly urge you to consider contacting your Michigan State Representative and State Senator to let them know how important it is for you to continue to purchase your prescriptions at your local pharmacy. If you are covered by a new collective bargaining agreement that requires you to use mail-order facilities for any of your prescriptions, you should contact your employer and let them know that it is unfair that you will have to pay all of the retail cost of your regular medication if you choose to continue buying from your neighborhood drug store, thus forfeiting your coverage benefit. Mention that you would like to be able to obtain a 90-day supply of medication on the same terms, without having to resort to mail order, and without having to pay full price and not just the co-pay amount.
